he Figo, first unveiled in 2009 has been a strategic car for Ford in the country and it was a pretty successful car. The US automaker has now another new sedan, based on the popular Figo hatchback. Unveiled as the Figo Concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the new sedan is christened the ‘Aspire’. Ford Aspire will be a sub four metre compact sedan offering superior performance, decent fuel efficiency and smart, first-in-class features. It will be officially launched soon and should be on the roads by the end of the year.
Ford Figo concept sedan shares most of its design elements with the new generation model of the Figo hatchback. It also looks like the Fiesta from certain angles. As a part of Ford’s new design, a trapezoidal grille having horizontal slats flanked by long and tapering headlights and fog lamps mark the front part. Electrically adjustable and highly flexible ORVMs with blinkers, 8 spoke alloy wheels and prominent creases make up the side profile. A chrome strip runs across the boot lid at the rear.
Ford Aspire provides ample space inside and can house in 5 adults easily along with a decent proportion of luggage. The wide doors open to a roomy cabin which has dark colours across the dashboard and seats. There are smart storage spaces inside the cabin and also has features to mount and charge mobile phones. MP3 players, satellite navigation system and Ford’s SYNC with Applink in-car connectivity are integrated into the car’s entertainment system. ABS, EBD, stability control, front and rear disc brakes and multiple airbags are some of its impressive safety features.
Figo has a flexible and frugal engine which makes it a great driver’s car and the new sedan will be no different. Ford Figo Aspire is widely expected to be incorporated with a 1.2 litre Duratec petrol engine and a 1.4 litre Duratorq diesel mill. The former is able to churn out a power output of 70 bhp at a peak torque of 102 Nm whereas the latter can deliver 68 bhp of power with a maximum torque of 160 Nm. The new Aspire will be arriving with these engine options with minor tuning for more power. Both the engines of the Figo hatchback are fitted with a 5 speed manual gearbox, however, it is expected that the sedan might be provided with a 5 speed automatic gearbox along with standard manual.
Figo Aspire will take on the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent upon its launch. The new sedan is expected to carry a price tag of Rs 5.50 for the base variant to Rs 7.50 lakhs for the higher variant.
